In 2011 Ella received more singing lessons and she started writing songs as well, starting her solo career after collaborating with Joel Little on a five-piece EP. With a cover of Duffy’s "Warwick Avenue" sent to Universal Music Group, as well as their earlier covers, they got signed soon, thus the group called "Ella & Louis" being born. Starting on a New Zealand radio with a cover of Pixie Lott and "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, she and her bandmate also won a talent show. Her mother taught her about reading and influenced her in her development and her lyrical inspiration, that aids her in songwriting, as Ella herself stated. The daughter of a poet, she became interested in arts as young as the age of five, when she became part of a drama group.
